Early-Stage Renewable Energy Financing

We Bridge the Initial Capital Gap for Projects

Dream Sky Integrated (DSi) is an impact investor and financial intermediary in Canadian community-scale renewable energy projects in Indigenous communities.

We manage the “Indigenous Energy Autonomy Fund” which is an initiative to contribute to the resolution of the Energy Crisis in Indigenous communities across Canada and to champion one pathway towards Economic Reconciliation and self-determination.

DSi’s vision is to unlock private capital for community-owned renewable energy projects as a cornerstone of Indigenous energy autonomy and development ambitions, while working closely with Indigenous peoples to identify and align priorities as well as maximize positive impact.

We fund the early-stage which is often the most difficult part of community-scale renewable energy project financing. Solid and flexible funding is a critical aspect of any alternative energy project. The projects in which we invest typically have characteristics that impede access to traditional lenders and investors.

We understand the challenges of raising capital in the pre-approval and pre-construction phases of community-scale and off-grid energy projects and have the expertise in sourcing the appropriate capital.

We prefer to engage early. Projects where we are involved from the concept stage can benefit fully from our experience in financial structuring and integrating available government tax incentives.

How Do We Bridge The Gap?

We leverage our strengths to:

DSi’s team has extensive experience in energy project financing and provides solutions tailored to match the expected cash flows.

DSi’s capital solutions comply with the requirements of incentives available for renewable energy projects, including the CRCE tax program. Our team specializes in optimizing tax benefits and other subsidies to raise the investment return and lower the cost of capital for projects. We also manage the administrative burden of the application and regulatory filings required for such incentive programs.

We understand the unique challenges involved in remote community projects such as difficulty of access, seasonal cycles and technology limitations due to climate, as well as the need for early community engagement. Successful projects in remote communities can only be built with the local community’s support and we can provide essential insights in how to enhance the value to the community served by a project.

Our focus

We are technology agnostic, as long as the project is sound and built upon proven technology that has been commercially launched.

Due to our experience in this industry and strong technology background, we are comfortable engaging with complex projects integrating multiple elements.

We will assist in identifying the needs of the project and ensure capacity for growth and future application. Our project exposure to date includes integrated off-grid solar/battery systems and biomass in Ontario, BC and Manitoba as well as wind power generation in Arctic conditions.

Who we are

DSi was formed in 2015 with the vision that community renewable power will be a key element of society’s energy transition and that the early-stage financial capacity bottleneck can be best addressed by working with a broad base of engaged Canadian Impact investors.

Indigenous communities are at the forefront of this transition leading the way, and DSi is committed to supporting this ambition.

Our team of dedicated financial and engineering professionals bring a proven track record of community-scale project development, capital raising and effective deployment of capital.
